About Us
Meet Sylvia Toma
Tell us about your background:
Being the youngest in a family of five – four sisters and one brother (poor guy!) – fashion has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I used to idolize every outfit my sisters would put together, and I was their living doll – dress up was my absolute favorite. From such a young age, I taught myself how to sew and loved designing my own made-to-order dresses. There is just an unexplainable feeling to be able to envision the exact dress or outfit you want, and then having it made just for you!I’ve always had the feeling I was destined for fashion.
Why fashion?
I’ve always had an eye for style and often asked by many, “What do you think of this outfit?” or, “Can you help me find an outfit for…”. I have a true passion for helping others; it is such a rewarding feeling when you mix that with anything fashion-related. In my eyes, it’s a win-win. So, I see Fashtique as a great way to send all those people who ask-- straight to the source. We have personally chosen each piece we carry, while considering each type of shopper in the process. We love that there will be a little touch of us in each outfit.
Describe your personal style:
I’m a style chameleon – what I wear depends on my mood that day, what I’m doing that day, how I feel in it. Living in San Diego, we are spoiled with beach weather, so summer dresses, shorts, tanks and sandals are staples of mine. At night, I favor fun, flirty dresses that are easy to slip on. And nothing beats the simplicity of jeans, a tank and an awesome statement necklace. I’ll pair each of these outfits with some killer heels and I am good to go!
What inspires you?
I would have to say that society in general inspires me. I love being around people. It’s amazing how you will never meet two people with the exact same style sense, and I actually appreciate being able to pick up on a person’s individual style and make a mental note of what caught my eye. I’m a fashion blogger junkie – it’s truly inspiring to be able to follow so many different style journeys and witness such creativity with different pieces of clothing. Always keep an open eye…you never know where you will learn your next fashion tip.
Your favorite item in your closet?
I would have to say any of my pointy-toed stilettos-- they are my current obsession. I can throw them on with anything and it transforms the entire look! I also can’t leave home without a watch – not sure if thats part of my closet though, haha!
In one phrase, how do you define fashion?
A reflection of your inner beauty and confidence.
Meet Bessma Loussia
Tell us about your background:
As an FIDM graduate in Merchandise Marketing, I knew I always wanted to pursue a career in fashion. I have 10 years of retail and management under my belt, which includes fashion, beauty, and PR. When I was a little girl, I took dress-up to a whole new level – for my second grade project, I created a virtual closet that would put together daily outfits and rotate to deliver the pieces of each look at the front of the door. When the movie Clueless came out, Cher owned the same closet concept I had imagined, and created as an assignment. At that point, I knew that I had an eye for something fashionable.
Why fashion?
It’s so gratifying to see other women feel happy, confident, and beautiful. That's why I succeeded in all of my retail positions. I put my all into creating beautiful looks for the women who I had the pleasure of helping. I called each woman a 'client,' not a 'customer,' as I strived to build relationships with everyone I met. What you wear tremendously effects how you feel, and when you know that you look great, you feel even better. This is what boosts our confidence, and I love nothing more than to see a confident woman walk into a room.
Describe your personal style:
I like to wear classic pieces with an edgy twist. I tend to incorporate a trendy piece here and there into my wardrobe to change it up, and I enjoy doing that. I try to have fun with my personal style and wear what makes me feel confident. If something doesn’t feel right, I don’t wear it. Most importantly, I focus on a look that appeals to the eye, as opposed to focusing on the brand of each piece.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by everything that I see. Living in downtown, San Diego and traveling frequently, I am given the opportunity to notice looks on the street, and create my outfits based on what I like seeing. I love to browse through fashion magazines and mimic high fashion looks that I see at a range of price points. I’m also inspired by many of the popular international bloggers – I love their sense of carefree, effortless style, and the fact that they can make even a casual outfit look über-chic.
Your favorite item in your closet?
Any one of my shoes. Because, let's face it, your shoes make or break the outfit.
In one phrase, how do you define fashion?
An expression of personal taste.
